A Taste of Herbs & Spices: Poultry Seasoning

Poultry seasoning is a flavorful blend of herbs and spices commonly used to enhance chicken, turkey, and other poultry dishes. It can also be used in casseroles, stuffing, vegetables, soups, and gravies. The blend typically contains sage and thyme, along with other seasonings such as marjoram, celery seed, black pepper, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper. These herbs and spices add savory flavor without relying on excess salt.

What Is Poultry Seasoning?

Poultry seasoning is a traditional seasoning blend popular in American and British cooking. Sage and thyme provide its signature flavor, while ingredients such as marjoram, celery seed, black pepper, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper add depth and aroma. This versatile seasoning can be used in a wide variety of dishes beyond poultry.

Ways to Use Poultry Seasoning

Use poultry seasoning to add flavor to:

  • Chicken, turkey, duck, and other poultry dishes
  • Stuffing and dressing recipes
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Soups and gravies
  • Casseroles
  • Marinades and dry rubs
  • Dips made with plain Greek yogurt

Sprinkle poultry seasoning on foods before cooking, incorporate it into marinades, or mix it into recipes for additional flavor.
